Snuffbox of gold

Rectangular snuffbox with hinged lid and thumb-rest shaped like a bracket. The sides of the box are curved outwards and inwards. In the profiled lid border is set a chased plaque depicting the goddess Diana with spear and hunting dog, accompanied by a nymph and several children. The scene is set in a cartouche composed of symmetrical rocailles with foam, shells and floral motifs, from which draperies hang. The box is unmarked.
