About this work

A Roman ruler in a red toga, probably Emperor Nero, looks from a platform at the top of a staircase and makes a hand gesture. Behind him a drinking vessel and cup on a table. On a stool lies a lyre. On the wooden frame a sticker with the text: '6 pieces of glass painting'. Part of a series of plates that together form a diaphanorama of a burning Roman city and a watching ruler, probably Emperor Nero and the Great Fire of Rome.
