About this work

A fort is on fire. In the foreground running and onlookers. The painting is located to the left of the center of the glass plate, the largest part of the plate is unpainted. Part of a series of plates that together form a diaphorama of a burning Roman city and a watching ruler, probably Emperor Nero and the Great Fire of Rome.
