About this work

These three groups depict scenes from the life of Christ in which he appears at a meal table. They would originally have formed part of the predella (lower zone) of a large carved altar. The three table scenes refer to the celebra-tion of Mass, when bread and wine are presented at the altar as the body and blood of Christ.
