View of the Third Heiligeweg Gate and its associated bridge at the end of the Heiligewegburgwal in Amsterdam, seen from outside the city. To the right, linen is being bleached. Various figures on the bank and on the bridge. This city gate, designed by Jacob van Campen, was built between 1636 and 1638 to replace the wooden Second Heiligeweg Gate. After the Fourth Expansion and the construction of the Leidse Gate (1664), this building lost its function as a city gate; it was demolished that same year.
