About this work

View of the Waag on the Nieuwmarkt (Sint-Antoniesmarkt), also known as the Sint-Antonieswaag, in Amsterdam. Viewed from the Geldersekade. In the left background, the tower of the Zuiderkerk. This weigh house was located in the former First Sint-Antoniespoort. This fifteenth-century building came within the city limits after the urban expansions at the end of the sixteenth century and thus lost its function as a city gate. In 1617-1618 it was converted into a weigh house. Subject category within the Atlas Amsterdam: Markets, trade: C. Veemen, Weigh Houses.
