Paper emergency coin, made from glued sheets of paper, from which a round coinlet was struck. Obverse: between year: 15 74 a standing, climbing Dutch lion on a piece of ground, in the claws a spear with a hat on it. Above the lion in the legend a crown. Above the indication 15 a punch: a Dutch lion in a coat of arms (to guarantee authenticity). Reverse: in a cartouche the coat of arms of Leiden with two concentric legends. The outer, God preserve Leyden, the inner: NOVLSGIPAC [=Nummus Obsessae Urbis Leydensis Sub Gubernatione Illlustris(simi) Principis Auraici Cusus: emergency coin of the city of Leiden, struck under the government of the illustrious Prince of Orange].
