About this work

Silver civic guard medal of Leiden. Obverse: a crowned climbing lion with a sword in its right and a shield with the city arms in its left claw, placed between the arms of the four burgomasters of Leiden. Legend: PVGNO PRO PATRIA (I fight for the fatherland). Reverse: trophies with the year at the bottom. Legend: SCHVTTERS PENNING. In a year different arms may be depicted, because the composition of the government changed every year in November.
