Catching and smoking herring at the Haringpakkerstoren, circa 1600. The salting, smoking and packing of herring. In the foreground on the right, the herring is being salted. On the left, a herring-smoking house with a signboard bearing the name Souterij. In the middle, the herring is being packed into barrels.
