About this work
Business card of Jan Smit, manufacturer of wall coverings. In the foreground Minerva views the wallpaper unrolled by three putti at her feet. Behind this the manufacturer shows a wallpaper to a number of customers. The whole is framed in an architectural frame decorated at the top with putti, flowers, fruits, peacocks and a monogram. Below an inscription of nine lines. Subject headings within the Atlas Zeden en Gewoonten: Trade, industry and traffic, Wholesale trade, Auctions, Brokerage and Insurance, Old business cards of shops and factories, advertising.
