About this work

Wedding print from 1729 with an allegorical representation on the occasion of a marriage. Hercules lies together with a muse of the Fine Arts among lions on the grass near Cupid who sits on a rock. At the top Fame and two embracing putti. In the corners monograms. At the bottom the motto 'Amori cedant omnia'. According to an inscription on the reverse, this is a wedding print for Jakob Dirksz van Lennep and Catharina de Wolff, married in Amsterdam on 12 September 1724. It would therefore concern a 5th anniversary. Subject headings within the Atlas Zeden en Gewoonten: The Beginning, Middle and End of Man. Marriage and wedlock.
