About this work

Winter scene with Dutch ice boats. Ice sailing, sleds, and skaters on the frozen Zaan; in the background, windmills and houses of Koog aan de Zaan, ca. 1775. From left to right, the windmills are: oliemolen De Reus, loodwitmolen De Rob, pelmolen De Pelikaan, and oliemolen De Christoffel or Broodkorf. The last two windmills stood on the so-called Koger Hem. Below the image, a line of text in Dutch. Marked top right: Pl. IX. Subject categories within the Atlas of Customs and Manners: Play and Entertainment; Ice Entertainment, Ice skates, ice skating wheel.
