About this work

Flemish meal. In a ground-floor apartment a lively and exuberant group of people has gathered for a meal. In the center a family with several children. Drinking and smoking, serving staff on the left and a kitchen maid by the hearth. At the top of the stairs a boy throws apples down. In the margin the dedication and a family coat of arms and numbered: No. 14. Subject categories within the Atlas of Customs and Manners: Popular life; Domestic life; the seventeenth century.
