The girl holds her hands folded in prayer. The second child has a slice of bread in his hand. Both have a slate hanging from their arm. A little dog sits on the ground in a begging posture. Behind them stands the father with the eldest son at a table, on which various books and an inkwell. Through the window the rising sun and Aurora, the sister of the sun god, can be seen.
