About this work

The Prince of Orange murdered in Delft by Balthasar Gerards, 10 July 1584. Willem van Oranje has been shot on the steps and is collapsing; to the left the murderer flees. To the right in the foreground, two guards running up. Subject categories within the Atlas Zeden en Gewoonten: Portraits, Portraits of Princes of the House of Orange, Ruling Princes, Stadtholders of Holland, Zeeland and West-Friesland.
