About this work
Fragment of a bowl from the VOC ship 'Witte Leeuw', 85% present. The bowl is reconstructed from sherds; part of the wall is missing. The bowl has an outward-sloping wall that thins toward the rim. The footring is high, V-shaped, and faceted. The sherd contains many impurities. The base is convex and glazed. The glaze is bluish and has pinholes. The interior center is decorated with "shou" (meaning long life), surrounded by a double band. The rim has a stylized wave pattern. The outer wall is decorated with two four-clawed dragons and a flaming pearl.
