About this work
Jar from the VOC ship 'Witte Leeuw'. The jar has a slender ovoid wall with a small base and a very narrow mouth. The rim is everted and flattened. The fabric is very light grey and free of impurities. The glaze on both the outside and inside is thick, clear, glossy, and crazed. The base is smooth and unglazed. The shoulder and belly are horizontally ribbed. The foot and base are orange-discoloured due to iron oxide.
