About this work
Porcelain plate from VOC ship 'White Lion' with a flat rim and a scalloped lip, painted in underglaze blue. In the center a large, square field, surrounded by a bracket-shaped band. In the field a grasshopper seen from above, sitting on a rock by the water and with flowering plants (aster) on either side. In the air an insect (dragonfly). Outside the field geometric motifs and stylized vines. On the wall and rim alternating broad and narrow fields with luck symbols (artemisia leaf, chakra) and flowering plants and fruit branches (peach). 85% present. Kraak porcelain in blue and white.
