About this work

Fragment of a plate from the VOC ship 'Witte Leeuw', 95% present. A bowl with a raised, scalloped rim, decorated in underglaze blue. In the center, a frog and an insect at the water's edge, between lotus plants. The scene is enclosed by a decorative band, acanthus-shaped on the inside, star-shaped on the outside, filled with white flowering branches against a blue background. In the wall, teardrop-shaped fields with symbols of good fortune and flowering branches.
