About this work

Porcelain plate, painted on the glaze in red, black and gold. On the flat surface a coat of arms with the pelican feeding its young from its breast. The crest is a bird. The coat of arms is surrounded by acanthus leaves. Around the coat of arms the inscription: 'IN MEMORY OF HERMANNUS LAURENTS DISCHER HEAD OF COMMISSIONERS AND PRAUW-VOERDERS ON BATAVIA AD 1749'. On the rim four flower branches (peony, chrysanthemum, iris) and a spearhead border. A chip and a crack in the rim. Coat of arms porcelain with enamel colors.
