About this work
At sea, whales are caught and cut up on land. On the right in the foreground, a large cauldron in which whale blubber is being cooked. On the left in the foreground, a reindeer sled, behind it the slaughter of reindeer and animal sacrifices to the gods of the Samoyeds. Opposite page 35 in: 'Warhafftige Relation. Der dreyen newen unerhörten seltzamen Schiffart so die Holländischen und Seeländischen Schiff....Anno 1594, 1595 und 1596 verricht' (1598).
