Plate with an allegory on the Dutch East India Company

Porcelain plate with lobed sides, painted on the glaze in pink (and camaïeu) and gold. On the flat surface a group of people: a woman with a flag bearing the initials of the Dutch East India Company, surrounded by young women, the god Mercury, and Asian servants offering gifts to the woman. At the woman's feet a lion, a crown, and jewels. In the background the Roadstead of Batavia. On the side a band with floral garlands; the rim with four flower branches in the German style. The scene is based on an engraving by Jan Punt (1711-1779). European representation in enamel colors.
