Laying of the First Stone for the Willemssluis, 1820

Festive laying of the first stone of the Willem I Sluice or Willemssluis in Amsterdam-Noord, providing access to the North Holland Canal from the IJ at Amsterdam on May 6, 1820. In the center, a large tent serving as the office for Inspector-General Jan Blanken. Dozens of people surround it. In the background, houses and a few barns. To the rear left, water with the sail of a ship rising above the dike. Attached to the drawing is an admission pass in the name of G. Lamberts as 'member of the Subcommission for Relief and Care in North Holland', February 1825, Buiksloot, Amsterdam.
