About this work
Struggle of fighting riders on running, falling, and rearing horses. On the verso, emblems referring to the political situation in the years 1784-85. At the top, a sword with a broken tip, a goose feather, a lion within a wreath, and the VOC monogram. To the left below, a representation of Brandes' personal dissatisfaction: a man in a habit writing in a book with a boy to his right. To the right below, a liberty pole with a hat and a caduceus next to a tree. Behind, a ship.
