Carved elephant tusk gift to Annie Hermine Cremer-Hogan

Elephant tusks <BR /><BR />Donated on June 1, 1919, to J.Th. Cremer and Mrs. A.H. Cremer-Hogan 'in respectful homage and as a lasting memory of faithful friendship' by the Honorary Advisor for Chinese Affairs in the Government of the East Coast of Sumatra.<BR /><BR />The entrepreneur and politician Cremer (1847-1923) held numerous positions in politics and business, especially in Dutch-Indonesian enterprises.<BR /><BR />In 1868, he was sent to the Indies by the Nederlandsche Handelmaatschappij. Later he worked there for the Deli Maatschappij. <BR />In 1881, he returned to the Netherlands. <BR />In 1884, he became a member of the Second Chamber. <BR />From 1897 to 1901, he was Minister of Colonies. <BR />From 1907 to 1912, he was president of the Nederlandsche Handelmaatschappij.
