About this work
Jacobus Albertus Wilhelmus (Jaap) Burger (1904-1986) was admitted to the Gerbrandy cabinet in London in 1944 as a member of the resistance from England. He was initially a minister without portfolio, responsible for return policy (preparation of the restoration of government after liberation). From May 31, 1944, to January 27, 1945, he was Minister of the Interior. A conflict with Gerbrandy over the post-war prosecution of 'wrongdoers' led to his resignation. The line network on the photo was applied by artist Cor Visser.
