About this work

Walking stick of lacquered ebony with a knob of red gold. The knob bears the inscription 'POEARDATAR 1878. 87'. A ruler of Sumatra's West Coast gave this stick to the B.B. official Visser in 1878. Poear Datar is a district in West Sumatra. The knob tapers upwards into eight lobes. The cut-off point at the bottom is protected by a modern rubber cap.
