Flintlock Pistol with an Ivory Case

Originally a wheellock pistol, but transformed into a flintlock; part of a pair. The lock plate in the shape of a wheellock covers the recess where the wheellock was; the spring of the flint of the lock extends into a carved leaf. The blued barrel is relief-carved at the back with floral and foliate ornaments, partly inlaid with silver against a blued background; marked at the bottom with a circle and two rosettes. The solid ivory stock is simply carved. The gilded brass furniture includes, among other things, a stock cap, a loop-shaped trigger guard and a butt cap engraved all around with floral and foliate vines and stamped at the bottom with knop ornaments; the ivory ramrod is fitted with a gilded brass cap.
