Celebration of the Thousandth Anniversary of the German Reich

In the run up to the Second World War the Nazi regime organized carefully orchestrated mass meetings. The unprecedented manner and scale on which the regime manifested itself drew the attention of foreign press agencies, such as the Associated Press, which took this photograph. The thousandth anniversary of the death of Heinrich I was celebrated in the market square in Quedlinburg, Germany. This king symbolized the birth of the Third Reich and the German urge for expansion.
