About this work

The funeral of Hendrik Koot. Koot, 42 years old, was a WA sergeant and was seriously wounded on 11 February during fights with Jewish residents, provoked by the WA. He died on 12 February and was buried on the 17th at Zorgvlied. The hearse with horses, escorted by WA members, crosses the Vijzelgracht, with some onlookers on the side. One of them gives the NSB salute. The death of Koot and the subsequent riots led to raids on the Jews; this was the cause of the February Strike on 25 and 26 February 1941.
