About this work

Standing man with a loose pipe (NG-2007-64-1) in his left hand and a roll of carrots (tobacco before it is ground) under his right hand. The man wears a striking combination of clothing, consisting of a European jacket with buttons and leather boots, combined with garments that were considered characteristic at the time for the original inhabitants of America: a feather headdress and a skirt of tobacco leaves. In his left hand he held an object that has been lost. The figure stands on a pedestal that was carved from the same piece of wood as the figure.
