About this work

Several members of the Gonggrijp family sitting on a bed. They are Stephanus Hendrik Gonggrijp and Louise Catharina Spiering of Morgenstond plantation with their children Hans and Anna Barbara (Annie) Gonggrijp. The photograph was likely taken in the house of Jacob Isaac Spiering on Gravenstraat (now Henck Arronstraat) opposite the Bishop's House in Paramaribo. The woman on the right in the background is possibly Ninne (=nanny) Atta, the servant on Morgenstond.
