About this work
Portrait of a marron chief in European uniform and a younger man in European costume with a bowler hat in hand against a background of a studio cloth with European interior. According to the inscription on the back of the photo, this is Governor Adray and his son. This is probably a portrait photo of the granman Adray Vroomhart and his son Samuel. Adray was from the Saramacca district and died in 1893.
