About this work
The Taminga family (also spelled Tammenga or Tamminga) belonged to the first group of farmer colonists who came from the Netherlands to Suriname in 1845. Muller likely photographed them at their home on the Gemeene Landsweg near Paramaribo. Together with his friend Dr. C. Hoekstra, Muller studied the history of farmer colonization in 1845 along the Saramacca River. He donated three hundred photographs to the Colonial Museum in Haarlem for a traveling exhibition intended to launch a new recruitment campaign for farmers from the Netherlands.
