About this work

Flag of Malta. Flag divided into four quarters, with the red flag with white cross in the first and fourth quarters and a plant or tree in the second and third quarters. At the mast base are two Islamic galley slaves, identifiable by their characteristic hairstyle (shaved except for a tuft of hair) which they were required to wear. Flag on flagstaff and mast base. Depicted on folio 119r. Part of a flag book with flags from Europe, North Africa, the Near and Far East.
