Portrait of a woman, possibly Anna Maria van Schurman. The portrait shows the woman turned three-quarter to the right, wearing a black dress adorned with a decorative motif on the front and sleeves. A white conical collar is draped over her shoulders, fastened at the front with a bow tie to which two small ear-shaped ornaments are attached. A blue ribbon (currently poorly visible) lies on top. Her hairstyle consists of a bun at the back of the head with loose hair ending in curls hanging down to the shoulders. In the bun she wears a wide ribbon and a pearl necklace that corresponds with the jewel worn around her neck. The background against which she is depicted is flat and light, except for a dark shadow cast behind the subject.
