About this work
A portrait of a Javanese man, possibly Sastrohadiredjo. He sits on a chair next to a table with an open box. He wears a sarong and a Western-style uniform jacket. On his head he wears a cloth. On the back are three stamps: twice Sastrohadiredjo, born Blitar, and once Tan Tok Ping, Probolinggo. Sastrohadiredjo likely refers to an administrative official who was Wedono in Blitar and possibly the sitter. Tan Tok Ping likely refers to a Chinese merchant who may have been the photographer of the portrait.
