About this work
Box with a portrait of Rabenhaupt. Japanese lacquer on copper, late 17th century. Karel von Rabenhaupt (1602-1675) came to the Republic in 1622 with the Count of Mansfeld's army. As an officer in the States army, in 1672 he successfully defended Groningen, while besieged by the troops of Bernhard van Galen of Münster. After the defence of Groningen, Rabenhaupt went on to capture Coevorden.
