About this work

Carved oak figurehead, presumably depicting a bust of Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter. He is dressed in a jacket with flat, round buttons and a flat collar with two tassels. On his chest he wears a large medal on a triple chain. Traces of gilding on the chain.
