About this work

Tobacco box, with rounded short ends, entirely decorated with engravings. The accompanying note (NG-KOG-1481-B) provides an explanation of the depictions. Lid: during an execution at the Dam, the militia fired on the crowd. Bottom: plundering of a tax farmer's house on the Singel. Back: killing of a Swede, one of the main ringleaders of the riot. On the front, an image of militiamen shooting at fleeing people. Further plant motifs and text cartouches. On the inside of the hinged lid, a label: NAA / 3160.
