About this work
High hat, black of (partially decayed) beaver. Widely flaring upwards, slightly arched. Bottom damaged at the back. A hole at the top. Remnant of a narrow band around the hat interior: Natural leather sweatband and white silk lining on bottom stamp: Supra fine felt J.J. Froger in hats Vijgendam and corner of the Beursstraat no 30 Amsterdam water-proof. Below paper bottom with same, below cardboard bottom, then felt bottom with second inscription handwritten: VIIII-. / Jinperme. Explanation: Evening of 28 October 1830 on the deck of HM Corvette Komeet, day of the (etc.).
