About this work

Combined silver spoon and fork. On the bowl in engraving a flower vase. Reverse engraved: 5/7 Ber. 1622. Taken during the siege of Bergen op Zoom from the purse of a clergyman. Four eyes are attached to the bowl for the fork's tines, which thus also serve as the spoon stem. The fork can be folded in two by means of a hinge. The stem has a mask on the slide and is crowned by a ball. Mark: MC in a square.
