Fragment of lock plate with pan and steel of a flintlock of a musket

Part of the lock plate with pan and steel of a flintlock. The strongly corroded fragment shows the remains of a pan with a revolving cover, the steel rotating on an axis in the lock plate, and the remains of the attachment of the hammer spring and the steel spring. This fragment belongs to another fragment to which the cock of this lock is attached (RM NM-7762). Compared to the other firearms found on Nova Zembla, this is a very modern weapon. As with the wheel lock, the springs of this flintlock apparently failed in the extreme cold, rendering the lock useless.
