About this work

Outer compass box consisting of a round, straight-sided box with a protruding rim at the bottom and a slightly recessed rim at the top. The compass box is open at the top and has a round hole of 82 mm diameter in the bottom. On the inside (under the upper rim), a rim of tarnished copper was observed, originating from a copper cardan ring in which the compass hung.
