About this work

Bedstead cord, supposedly made by Tsar Peter I, 1697. While visiting the Republic in 1697, Tsar Peter I received some practical training in ship carpentry. Peter spent four months working as an apprentice at the VOC shipyard in Amsterdam. Peter is traditionally supposed to have made this cord while at the shipyard. It would have hung beside a bedstead, to be held into when climbing into bed.
