About this work

Oval box of tombac, with a lid featuring a rectangular protruding hinge; profiled edges of gilded tombac are riveted along the edges of the box and lid; the underside and side are covered with leather or seal skin. The underside is further decorated with golden nails along the edge, and in the center a decoration forming four intertwined P's with an imperial crown above. On the lid is a painted representation with an allegory on the death (of Peter the Great). Dated. Inscription.
