About this work
Bronze medal. Obverse: winged woman with a laurel wreath, representing the city of Brussels, sits on a throne against which a coat of arms, books, and a banner with an inscription rest; in her left hand she holds a wreath, in her right a pen with which she writes on a broken column around which a snake coils; incuse: inscription. Reverse: burning lamp standing on an altar, around which lie a palette with brushes, a lyre, a compass, a hammer, and writings within a wreath of palm branches.
