Amsterdam receives the city coat of arms in 1342 from Count Willem and the right to place the imperial crown above it from Emperor Maximilian I in 1488

Box, consisting of two silver plaquettes that can be screwed together. Obverse: Count William sitting on a throne, surrounded by courtiers and soldiers, gives the coat of arms to a group of citizens above inscription within decorative border. Reverse: Emperor Maximilian standing amidst a group of courtiers and soldiers, places imperial crown above coat of arms that someone from group of citizens holds up to him above inscription within decorative border. Box in which the medal struck by the city of Amsterdam on the Peace of Breda (NG-VG-1-1016) was presented.
