About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: bust of a man within an inscription. Reverse: accompanied by a lying, crowned lion with a sword and bundle of arrows, Netherlands, depicted as a woman with a liberty cap on a spear, places a wreath on a partially veil-covered and laurel and flower wreath-surrounded funeral urn on a pedestal, decorated with a legend and garlands, against which an inverted, extinguished torch leans; at the foot of the pedestal lie a broken palette and brushes; left stands France, depicted as a crowned woman, who holds a scepter in her right hand and scatters flowers with her left hand; behind her a crowned eagle with thunderbolts; above the altar, between both women in hovers Fame with a snake ring in hand within an inscription; section: legend.
