About this work

Silver medal. Obverse: Mercury with staff and liberty cap above the new town hall; in the foreground Amphion playing the lyre within a border with an inscription and a crowned coat of arms. Reverse: Amsterdam's maiden with an imperial crown seated in a garden between two lions, each holding three coats of arms, in the background a view of Amsterdam on the IJ, above which three cherubs with banners and trumpets illuminated by heavenly light, within a border of sixty coats of arms.
